What We Treat
What Does a Podiatrist Do?
A podiatrist, also called a doctor of podiatric medicine, is a specialist who provides medical and surgical diagnosis and treatment of foot, ankle, and lower extremity problems below the knee.
See above for a list of the most common conditions.
Training
In addition to earning an undergraduate degree, podiatrists also attend graduate school for a doctorate degree in podiatry (DPM), followed by a two- to four-year medical and/or surgical residency.
Podiatrists are required to take state and national exams, as well as be licensed by the state in which they practice. The podiatrists at Anderson Podiatry Center also have additional board certification in podiatric surgery, which requires surgical cases and extensive examination.
Who Goes to Podiatrists?
Podiatrists are in demand more than ever today because of a rapidly aging population.
Also, according to the American Podiatric Medical Association, foot disorders are among the most widespread and neglected health problems affecting people in this country.
